How Much Did #GivingTuesday Raise This Year?
In 2012, Giving Tuesday was a grassroots social media call for a day of giving to follow the infamous pseudo-holidays of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. For three years it has continued to grow in recognition as this generation’s attempt to rebalance our efforts and resources to benefit those less fortunate through charitable donations of time, money, goods and our voices for change.
Giving Tuesday is an exemplary effort to have the spirit of giving not be lost in the spirit of getting.
The landmark movement has only completed it’s third circle around the social media sun, and 2015 made it clear that Giving Tuesday is here to stay, with 1.3 million social media mentions.
Charitable giving launched to 155% higher than last year, totaling a whopping $117 million, according to Givingtuesday.org. Throughout the 24-hour period, charities reported 1.08 million individual donations (Reuters).
