You've Never Had a #thirstythursday Like This
Forget red Solo cups. Actually, forget cups all together, let alone clean, disposable ones. I’m assuming you’ve heard something about this before - that much of the world is suffering a daily, lethal water crisis - but has it been presented to you in real terms?
Let’s say you’re asked this: How many people in the world lack access to safe water supplies? a.) 552 million b.) 796 million c.) 884 million d.) I don’t know. What would be your answer? Read on to find out if you’re right, and what POINT is doing to help teach local kids about children their own age across the world who experience life much differently.
If you chose c.) 884 million, you were right. Unfortunately, you were right. Almost 1 billion people across the world lack access to safe water supplies. It’s hard to imagine. But let’s think of it this way. There’s about 319 million people currently in the US. So we’re talking almost 3x that much!
If you watched the short video footage above, you can see some of the dangerous factors of unsafe water supplies. Sometimes, it isn’t even about the water content. It’s how it’s retrieved that threatens lives: click here to watch Charity:Water's spotlight on water safety in the Sahel region of sub-Saharan Africa. (This spotlight truly resonated with me personally, I recommend watching it!)
On June 24th from 11:30am-1:30pm - as mentioned in this week’s Monday update - POINT will be at FountainSide, a summer-long, weekly event for thousands of local Columbus families and kids to continue in engaging activities outside of school. POINT has chosen to host a water activity for kids, highlighting and bringing awareness to the process of retrieving and cleaning water that millions experience everyday - especially kids just like them - all while providing a fun, safe way to get refreshed during the summer afternoon.
POINT will be another voice exclaiming why Water Changes Everything:
