Sam's Fans is on POINT Columbus

We have a new charity on POINT!

We are excited to announce that Sam’s Fans has joined the POINT family, ready to go with chances for you to join their work in the Columbus community.

What is Sam’s Fans?

Sam’s Fans is an Ohio-based organization with the mission “to support and enhance music and art therapy programs that serve seriously ill children and their families.” The mission and legacy of the organization is deeply personal - dedicated to Sam’s memory, her love of the arts, and the supportive role of music and art therapies during her long hospitalization.

Samantha Jane McCarthy (March 15, 1998 - October 15, 2009) loved art and music. Music therapy, in particular, was “one of the only things that brought her peace, joy and comfort” as she endured treatments for Fanconi Anemia at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, a diagnosis she received when she was 7 years old.

“No matter how sick or uncomfortable she was, when her music therapist knocked on the door, Sam would welcome him in with a smile.”

Nikki and Dan McCarthy founded Sam’s Fans “in honor of her life, legacy and love of music” in 2015. Since then, the efforts of the organization have had an amazing impact on the quality of life of patients and families like their own, with sponsored programs at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Cincinnati Children’s, Dayton Children’s, Flying Horse Farms and Akron Children’s Hospital.

Sam’s Fans also recently sponsored the regional music therapy conference for the Great Lakes Region of the American Music Therapy Association. Columbus-based music therapist Amber Bruns, MM, MT-BC, says that “music therapists in Ohio are so excited about what Sam’s Fans is doing to bring our services to children who need us. They’ve had a huge impact on music therapy programs all over the state.”
