Simon Cowell’s ‘Artists for Grenfell’ video is something you need to see

It’s a music video we wish there wasn’t a need for, but in light of last week’s events, are thankful to see in response.

79 residents of Grenfell Tower in North Kensington, London, died or are missing, presumed dead, after a fire broke out and engulfed the majority of the structure during the middle of the night, while most would have been sleeping.

The aftershocks of the lives lost are devastating to survivors, family members and friends of those who were killed. The surrounding community and responses internationally have been heartening, as thousands have come together in raising funds and supplies for immediate needs.

“Churches, community centres and football clubs have been inundated with donations of clothes and toiletries for those affected – many of who were forced to escape the burning building in their night clothes. More than £1m has been raised to help those affected by the fire, with more than 60 tonnes of donations collected by one local mosque.” (BBC)

Renowned Artists Come Together For Special Tribute

In response, Simon Cowell organized an emotional, 50-artist cover of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ by Simon and Garfunkel to raise funds for recovery. The touching video also spotlights the rallying community’s efforts in the wake of the tragedy, and features a choir of 300 locals, as well as artists like Rita Ora, Robbie Williams, Liam Payne and many more.

The song rocketed to #1 on iTunes in just 2 hours after it’s release yesterday. It’s not hard to see why.

Millions of dollars have so far been raised in response, and the outpouring of help and care continues to climb.
