Columbus, here’s what’s on POINT this week!

If you have a heart for causes like Health, Poverty and Animals, POINT has great opportunities for you and your friends this week. After helping out in Columbus, check our recommendations for each on how to keep the good times rolling in “What to enjoy nearby:”. See you out there!

Fight for Air Climb

“This is the 9th annual Fight For Air Climb in Columbus, and it takes place at Rhodes Tower, the tallest building in central Ohio. Each year we have a variety of participants – from family and friends, to corporate groups, and (my personal favorite) first responders that climb in full gear! We’ve even had double-lung transplant patients participate! This year we expect to raise over $100,000 which will in part be used to fund local programs such as asthma training in schools, support groups for those affected by lung disease, and more!” (Voss, ALA). As Climbers make their way up, the American Lung Association in Ohio needs volunteers at Registration, water stops, the Cheer Tunnel (uhm, yes!), Hospitality, and more.

Why we love this: When else do you get the opportunity to help people climb the city’s tallest building? Talk about taking awareness to new heights. Good for you, good for others and you don’t have to break a sweat.

  • Increase Knowledge & Empathy Around Community Needs

  • Make Civic Engagement a ‘Family Habit’ “

Colony Cats Adoption Center – Care & Cleaning

“Colony Cats is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization whose primary mission is to address cat overpopulation in central Ohio through public awareness and spay/neuter efforts. Since 2002, our organization has facilitated spay/neuter of nearly 15,500 cats and dogs, and placed more than 12,000 pets in homes.” Help improve the well-being of homeless cats (and dogs) by assisting the cleaning of the adoption center and caring for the cats!

The full family ESL program offers three early childhood rooms and Kids Club – volunteers can work with any group while playing games, helping with homework and serving up snacks!
